This began as a private RP between Keptim (playing Squash) and myself (playing Moray and Autumn), but we would like to open it up to the public. If you are interested, the full RP prior to being opened is available as an attachment: Drovill - The Intern Returns.rtf (30.22 KB). CAST
Moray (ref) and Autumn - Squash (ref) - Jaeger (ref) - Kestrel (ref) - Iodine (ref) - Viper (ref) - Notice (ref) TL;DR? A summary of events thus far is available below (though reading is still recommended):
Set in a Drovill terminal, Squash is late returning from his most recent internship. Moray and his pet, Autumn (affectionately called Crispy by Moray) wait. His patience is wearing thin as Autumn's boredom begins to best her self-control. They bicker and she whines and complains about being hungry until, finally, Squash steps into the waiting area with his luggage in tow. They rise to meet him. Squash and Moray exchange some playful banter, and much to Moray's dismay, Squash gives Autumn a prepackaged baked snack. Moray declares that they had walked here so they had better get a move on.
Outside, the evening breeze is cool and crisp. Autumn is exhausted from the trek to the terminal and so rides atop her owner's shoulders; Squash is quick to catch up. The three earn a few stares from the passersby, which irritates Moray and instigates Squash to be even more obnoxious. As they walk they are trying to decide on a place to eat (and also continue to tease one another). They decide to eat at a new place that has opened up called "On the Avenue". Moray reviews the menu and judges it worthy to everyone's relief. They order as Squash tells Moray all about his internship.
Jaeger enters the main floor from a back room and takes a seat, ordering everything on the menu. When the food arrives, all hell breaks loose as Autumn goes running off to harass him about his personal feast. Moray and Squash (soon after) take off after her to prevent the situation from escalating. As the commotion is going on Iodine, a local veterinarian, and Kestrel, a Drovill visitor, enter the restaurant, take seats and observe at a distance. The group around Jaeger's table find out that this establishment belongs to Jaeger and that he was just checking up on it. Jaeger invites Autumn to eat with him.
As introductions are being made, they are quickly interrupted by a horrible scream from outside. The staff and patrons migrate outside to join a growing crowd of Kolthers around an individual who lay dying in the street, his throat slit. Kestrel moves quickly to apply pressure to the wound as Viper arrives on the scene, declaring it a criminal investigation. A rumor of a fleeing human circulates through the crowd (now being dispersed by Viper) as the Kolther draws his final breath. He relaxes and his hand opens, revealing a glowing, red chip.
Viper spots and moves to confront Moray who she was confident would have Autumn accompanying him, but only after letting Kestrel know that she may wash her hands. Distraught, Kestrel marches back into "On the Avenue" to use its bathroom. Squash, concerned for the stranger, leaves Moray's side to provide support and comfort. Now face to face, Moray and Viper are butting heads, as always. She demands that Autumn show her chip as a formality. After a minor spat, the human smugly complies, but the chip is unlit and inactive, though intact (as verified by Viper). Viper's electronic notifier provides context to the situation: that all chips are currently inactive. Strangely, the found-chip was still lit. As Viper begins to investigate a small child, Notice, interrupts saying that she is lost.

Jaeger emerged from the back office, dressed in his usual white tee and jeans. Barefoot in his half form, he appeared very happy and care-free. His old, khaki backpack was strapped to him as it always was. His thumbs rested on the interior of the straps as he made his way to a booth. He smiled and nodded at a passing waitress and seated himself very near the group. He tossed his backpack to the far seat, nestled into his booth, and eagerly reviewed the menu.
The same waitress passed and kindly asked him for his order. Once placed, the waitress left, yet he continued to look over the menu. He rested his chin on his knuckles as he read through. Perhaps he was reading out of boredom. His intentions were unknown until the waitress came back with several assisting waiters and seemed to have a plate of everything on the menu. It took the three staff members three trips to bring everything to Jaeger, and the commotion and certainly caught the attention of a few restaurant patrons. Without hesitation, he began sampling each.

Moray listened intently to his friend’s review of his travels while Autumn stared blankly into space. She absent-mindedly flicked the straw in her drink back and forth, stirring and poking the cubes of ice. Her head rested heavily against the back of her other hand. A half-form Kolther waltzed out of the back and took a seat nearby. She watched a waitress attend to him then quickly disappear. She found herself contemplating the new patron’s source of entry into the establishment as her owner continued absorb the river of information running from Squash’s mouth. Why from the back? Was there another door? Her reverie was shattered as plates and plates and plates were carried out and placed before her object of curiosity. The food hit her nose and she found her mouth watering. Moray should have sat her on the inside of the booth. Before Moray could grab her she was up and out of her seat, making a bee-line for the one-man feast. Her master caught up to her quickly enough and had her by the shoulders. “What do you think you’re doing?!” Autumn furrowed her brow and spun back around to face her quarry, then opened her mouth to speak, but found she was at a loss for words. “Can you really eat all that?” was all she managed to say before turning red and feeling like an idiot. Moray winced.

Squash had been absentmindedly yammering on about his travels and studies, he seemed to be so absorbed in his own story, it wasn't until both Moray and Autumn were already a decent distance away from the booth before he trailed off. "So after taking a few sapling samples...we...hey!" He called after them. He pouted and his animated hands fell back to the table in disappointment as his small audience moved away from him. However his eyes widened as he heard Autumn speak up. This could be bad. The big orange Kolth slid his way out of his seat and shuffled past some tables after them. There probably wasn't much he could do, but who knows how this stranger Kolth would respond to the rather out-of-turn comment from the Red Chipped human girl. He stood on his toes and peeked over Moray's shoulder to get a good look at Jaegar. At first glance he didn't look too threatening...The piles of plates and food around him seemed to attribute to that sense. If the other customers in the diner hadn't been staring before, they were now. Squash glanced around at everyone, his tail wrapped around his leg, something he did when he was uncomfortable or on edge. "Ah..." He tried to speak up, but for once, Squash was speechless.

(Don't mind mee, just jumping in on the fuuun~)
Kestrel had flown into Drovill a short while ago, having previously been in Orita for some training and had wanted some flight time, bringing her here. She'd remembered having a delicious breakfast of waffles at this one diner on her last visit and was interested in a light lunch for the afternoon. As the female entered the diner in her humanoid form, her ears flickered foreword to find most eyes on an off centered scene of some pink guy with a load of plates before his nose and a small human by his side. She raised an eyebrow, but decided it was none of her business as she found a seat near a window and picked up a menu to see what her options were.
(No need to throw me in on the action yet x3 I just wanted to get in on this V u V )

As Jaeger fiddled away with his cutlery and delicately put food in his mouth, his ears alerted him to approaching footsteps from another booth. He shrugged it off, assuming they were passing, surely to the bathroom or something. Jaeger's savoring was interrupted by a human girl. She innocently questioned his ability to eat everything on the table. Jaeger turned his head to the side to speak to the human lass, and he smiled at her bewilderment. While sitting, he was eye level with her, "Why yes, yes I can! But I won't be doing that this time. I'm sampling all of the food, my dear". He noted the other two Kolthers that had approached his booth. "If it is alright with your owner, you may take some. I'm only cutting off bits, I won't double dip" he winked at her and displayed a cheery smirk.
A gruff looking gentlekolth quickly approached from her flank. From what Jaeger gathered, he must have been the human's owner. He certainly did not look happy. Not wanting any harm to come to the girl, he spoke up, "Hello there, friend. We were just discussing the eating ability of a Koltherian body! If you'll allow it, she may take some." He smiled as sincerely as he could, trying to hide his mild concern for the human's safety.
He saw a delightfully rotund Kolther approach. He opened his mouth as if to speak, but no words came. Jaeger filled in the gap, "Hello there!" his eyes remained wide and his ears perked. He was now viewing three sets of eyes all staring at him. He was unsure of what to do next and reached for his fork to shovel in another bite. As he was waiting for replies, another Koltherian entered the diner. She looked over only for a moment before resigning to her own booth. Jaeger managed to reach for a pastry and took a slow bite from it, still watching the plethora of faces.

And all was well.
Moray visibly relaxed when the stranger had only kind words for his girl. His pulse pumped hard from the rush of adrenaline before the shame of his carelessness began to wash over his mind. Moray had become much too relaxed and his lack of caution with his little red-tag could have ended poorly indeed, had the Koltherian at the table been a very different person. Luckily, this wasn’t the case, but flashes of negative outcomes plagued him for moments longer. Being directly addressed brought him back to reality, and he stiffened again trying to catch what was being said to him. He looked down to see Autumn staring up at him, full of hope. The food. He was offering her some of the food. “Crispy, you have some of your own coming out very soon…” he trailed off speaking softly so as to minimize the number of people that can hear him. “I know, and I didn’t expect him to offer, but since he did...” she averted her eyes and glanced behind herself at Jaeger before looking back up into Moray’s defeated face. “You’ve been excessively childish today, you know? I’ve taught you better than this. You’re better than this—“ Moray stopped himself from going on a tangent in public and swallowed. “Look, if you can at least find your manners and apologize for the interruption, I’ll allow it. Autumn, do not do this again.” It wasn’t so much a warning as a plea.
Autumn sighed and tried to look defiant. It was an act she knew Moray saw through. She felt bad and he could tell. The young woman turned around to face the table, took a breath and said, “I should have been more polite, thank you for being so kind.” She sorta tried to not roll her eyes. “She would love some of your food, and I will pay your bill for the trouble,” Moray added. He became increasingly aware of how all eyes were on the haphazard gathering and grew uncomfortable. Squash probably loves all of this attention, Moray thought.

Iodine whistled a tune as he closed up his clinic for the day. It had been a relatively slow day and he decided it wouldn't hurt to close up early. His little song was interrupted by the rumbling of his stomach and the kolther frowned. He thought back to the last time he had eaten and quite frankly couldn't remember. He skipped breakfast so... sometime yesterday? With a sigh, he put his keys away and walked out a few more steps. He was still in work clothes so going out might not be the best idea... Hunger quickly won over his embarrassment of going out while wearing pawprint patterned scrubs under his coat.
Iodine thought for a moment where to go and remembered hearing from a client that a new diner had opened up near his clinic. He wasn't picky and it was close, so why not? The kolther idly picked up his humming again as he walked down the stairs and out onto the street. Coming up to the front, he saw it was quite busy. Especially around one table. He quietly walked in, taking a quick look around for a vacant seat and picking up a menu.
Now he didn't mean to stare, but curiosity got the better of him and Iodine ended up staring back at the crowded table. It didn't take long for him to spot a human over in the bunch. He could have sworn he worked on one that looked just like her earlier today and wondered if it was the same human.

As the tension of the diner seemed to relax, Kestrel peered back over at the group over the top of her menu. The two with the human looked greatly familiar, but she hadn't seen them around Concoast. That's right, they were the two she'd see jogging around sometimes. Those were the little details she noticed and remembered; seeing Kolths exercise. Her ears twitched a bit as her eyes returned to the menu to decide on a lunch option, the fish sandwich with chips seemed good. Again, she looked up as the bell rang and someone new walked in. He looked quiet and well kept, smelling lightly of latex and clean plastics. Kess took notice of his pawprint scrub pants and figured the scent was from his medical supplies as a vet. Cool. However now with everyone in the diner in their half forms, and she in her humanoid, she felt a little out of the loop. Buuuut she was comfortable and thus didn't bother shifting just yet. She waved the waitress over and placed her order.

"...Hi!"
Squash replied to Jaeger's greeting, visibly relaxing with Moray. His look of concern turned to a wide smile. He glanced between Moray and Jaeger as they conversed. This had turned out better than expected. However he was sure Moray would complain about it for days which just made the big guy smile wider. He sorta glanced around at everyone, and just as his tall friend had thought, he was soaking in the attention, now that he was sure Jaeger wasn't going to get upset at Autumn. Most of the diner had lost interest in the group and had returned to their meals or previous conversations. But a few faces were turned their way, two of them included Iodine and Kestrel. Though the female seemed to have moved on now and was ordering food. He lingered on them for a second more than he normally would, as they were also vaguely familiar to him. Iodine he placed rather quickly. He would have visited the clinic many a time with Moray due to his line of work. New humans in the program would require checkups and the poor fragile creatures always seemed to need some sort of medical attention. He shot a smile and even a little wave his way, his expression showed some sign of visible recognition. He was having a harder time with Kess, and that peaked his interest, so naturally he left Moray's side to go curb his curiosity. It wasn't uncommon for him to wander off to go talk to strangers, especially if he thought he might have seen them before. "I'll be right back guys." He said over his shoulder at the trio. As he wandered across the room he made a point to stop at Iodine's table. "Hey! You work down at the clinic down the street right?" Though it was probably a little strange to be approached so casually, Squash's smile and body language was rather disarming.

Kestrel stretched out a bit as she sat at her booth, waiting on her food to return. It was much more settling now in the diner, but the big orange guy seemed to be wandering around to make new friends. Kestrel smiled at that, thinking it was sweet and something she typically did when she was in her comfort zone. She gave a small yawn and propped her head up on one palm as she peered back over at where the little human girl was with the two other males. She didn't have any slaves or pets herself, but she wouldn't of minded having one. Although to see a human out in public was a curiosity that she couldn't ignore. This one wasn't quiet and timid like the ones she had seen previously tending homes when Minnow managed to drag her to house parties or get togethers. Kestrel's little stub of a tail twitched as she sat back against her chair, holding her hands behind her head like a pillow while she looked out the window.

Upon hearing the exchange between Moray and his human girl, his mind eased. "No need to apologize, my dear. I'm sure your owner here just doesn't want you getting hurt. Some of us don't take kindly to humans, and that is quite a shame." He nodded at her quickly, a seeming condolence to his point. He turned back towards his table and he reach for the two nearest plates he had already sampled. "Here you are," he gently passed the plates to Autumn's hands, waiting until he felt her grasp them properly. "Now there's plenty more where that came from. You are more than welcome to join me if you like!" Moray had offered to cover his meal and Jaeger was pleasantly surprised. He chuckled, "I would be happy to let you pay my tab, but there isn't one!" Jaeger was quite pleased with himself at this point. "This is my diner. I dropped by to surprise my staff and see how the service was coming along".
Jaeger averted his eyes to Squash, and he reached out to shake his hand, "You seem to be quite the pleasant fellow! I tell you what, how about I cover your tabs. This has been quite enough commotion for a single day. Also, had I taken my plates back into my office none of this would have happened. I'll take responsibility for this one!" Jaeger beckoned to his waitress and whispered for a few moments in her ear. She smiled, nodded enthusiastically, and disappeared behind the counter. "I'm usually not here causing a raucous, I live in Whitskar with my mate. We have a few restaurants and clubs over there. This would be our first venture out of our home town.
Jaeger had taken care of Moray and Squash's tab, yes. But every one of the diner patrons would soon find their bills 'taken care of' and signed by management as an apology for the commotion.

Moray muttered the words “of course” to himself. The point of entry, the excess of food; of course he was the owner. Moray looked down to observe his human’s behavior. The moment the plate was within her grasp everything else the kind Kolth had said might as well have been underwater because Autumn had a rather one-track mind. Grinning she slid into the seat across from him and realized the table was too high and that the booster seat was back in their original spot. Undeterred, she moved to stand on her knees to eat when Moray sensed her predicament and slid in after her, lifting her onto his lap. She shot him a mortified glance and he snorted a laugh then told her, “eat.” With this arrangement she couldn’t go bolting off and it simultaneously presented the rare chance to embarrass the girl. Revenge was sweet. He undid his falling pony tail and ran his fingers through his hair a few times before tying it back up. “Thank you for all this...,” he looked around at the smattering of dishes (the waitress had been astute enough to serve him at the new table as well), “but we still don’t know your name. I’m Moray and this—“ “I’m Autumn,” she broke in, her mouth full of food. “You mean you’re nasty.” He flicked her ear. “AUGH. I HATE THAT.” Moray chuckled deeply. Autumn nursed her afflicted ear and searched for Squash, hoping he was nearby enough to defend her honor. She found him chatting up the resident veterinarian, whom she had in fact, seen just that morning for a routine check-up. She was getting ready to shout when she caught the gaze of a female Kolther, sitting alone at a table. She decided to solidify the awkwardness of the moment by waving aggressively. Moray grabbed her wrist and pinned it down to her side.

Kestrel's ears perked at the sight of the violent waving and she couldn't help but give a small chuckle at the sight. That must have been a human child with how she was acting like a youngling. In retort, she crossed her eyes and stuck out her green tongue to make a silly face while the girl's owner wasn't watching. She soon found her food arriving and settled with just eating before she attempted to jump up and socialize. She picked up her fish sandwich and took a testing bite out of it before deciding it was very well prepared and tastey!
